Reflections BookPage 11. Adam Falls, 2006-15
Initially I had tried to paint the appearance of water falling from the rocks. The painting was too pretty, so I glazed over the whole thing and followed William Merritt Chase's advice to add some "devilment" to the painting.

Reflections BookPage 12. Oxbow Revisited, 2007-08
In 2007, I made a painter's pilgrimage to Holyoke, Massachusetts in search of the oxbow on the Connecticut River where Thomas Cole had made his studies for his painting that appeared in many art history books. My meanderings led to the discoveries of more intriguing aspects relative to Cole and the whole beginnings of American landscape painting.

Reflections BookPage 13.
In a dream early one morning, I was in my kayak floating on the Oxbow when, like a bird, I took off and ascended upwards. I immediately woke and Googled the site which looked almost exactly the same as my dream. While actually kayaking around the Oxbow at dawn, my beagle and I encountered a face-to-face staredown with a river otter.

Reflections BookPage 16. Kaaterskill Falls, 2009-15
After his death in 1848, Thomas Cole became known as the father of the Hudson River School, the first movement in American Art. Waters flowing from South Lake cascade down the Kaaterskill Falls into Catskill Creek, down to the Hudson River.
